Welcome back Gaels! The Oxfam at Queen’s team hopes you all had a relaxing summer and are ready to return to Kingston! With classes beginning next week, here’s an overview on Oxfam at Queen’s and what we have in store for September.
Who we are:
Oxfam at Queen’s is a social justice club and campus branch of Oxfam Canada. Oxfam Canada is an affiliate of the International Oxfam Confederation which aims to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice with emphasis on promoting the rights of women and girls. Oxfam at Queen’s works in two campaigns: Even It Up (gender and economic inequality) and Environmental Justice. The dedicated team members behind Oxfam at Queen’s organize various events to promote our campaigns, create awareness on global injustice, and raise money for social justice causes locally and globally.

Location: The ARC gym
Oxfam at Queen’s will be present at the ARC gym on September 8th, accompanied by a variety of booths hosted by other clubs and resources on campus. This is a great opportunity for new and returning students to find out about the diverse selection of clubs and campus resources at Queen’s and to connect with club leaders and representatives from the Division of Student Affairs. Visit our booth for more information on our initiatives and how to get involved with our social justice campaigns.
Sidewalk Sale:
Date: Sept 10th at 9am-6pm
Location: University Ave
The Sidewalk Sale is run by the Queen’s Canadian Cancer Society and it gives small businesses, volunteers, clubs, charities, and teams at Queen’s and in Kingston the opportunity to fund, raise and increase involvement in the Queen’s community. This event is also a great opportunity for first years to get more comfortable at Queen’s and meet new people. Additionally, all proceeds from the renting booths are donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. Come visit our booth on September 10th for information and to get involved with Oxfam at Queen’s.
The Oxfam Snack Bar:
The Oxfam Snackbar sells Fair-Trade produced goods at cost to the Queen's Community to advocate the importance of your food product footprint and how the people behind the manufacturing of the product are being treated. Our Snack Bar will be opening at the end of September, but check out our instagram for more information and an exact date! (https://www.instagram.com/oxfamatqueens/?hl=en) We are currently looking to hire two executive members to manage the snack bar: Internal Snack Bar Coordinator and External Snack Bar Coordinator.
